MENA Newswire News Desk: Heba Ibrahim Al Mansoori, an emerging voice in Emirati literature, proudly presents her debut collection, “The Humidity of Our Country and Other Short Stories,” currently showcased at the Sharjah International Book Fair. This anthology marks her first venture into the literary realm, offering readers a profound and nuanced exploration of universal human experiences through interconnected narratives.

The Sharjah International Book Fair, one of the world’s largest and most prestigious literary events, provides the perfect platform for Al Mansoori to introduce her work to a diverse and international audience. The book’s presence at the fair underscores its cultural significance and highlights the growing prominence of Emirati literature on the global stage.

The collection features five distinct short stories, each intricately woven around the element of time – every narrative unfolds within a single day. While the events may appear ordinary on the surface, they serve as catalysts for deep introspection and lasting transformation within the protagonists, regardless of their age or life experience. One particularly poignant tale centers on the innocent yet impactful perspective of a four-year-old girl.

“People are the true treasure of any writer,” Al Mansoori reflects. “In my stories, I focus on the human being as the central element, unbound by specific locations or countries. I strive to delve into the psychological complexities and unique personalities of my characters, serving as a mirror that honestly reflects their emotions, pains, and dreams without passing judgment.”

    Highlights from the Collection Include:

“The Humidity of Our Country,” “Zain,” and “Ballet at 2 PM”: These narratives capture ephemeral moments that lead to profound shifts in thought and emotion. The characters—ranging from adults facing life’s complexities to a four-year-old child discovering the world—may not immediately grasp the enduring impact of their experiences. Yet, as time unfolds, the depth of these seemingly ordinary moments becomes unmistakably clear, altering their perceptions and changing the course of their lives in ways they could never have anticipated.

“In Love with Nour El Sherif”: Inspired by the influential power of cinema and the intricate web of human connections, this story delves deeper into themes of love, identity, and belonging. It illustrates how a single character on screen can profoundly affect the lives of others, bridging the gap between reality and the cinematic world. The narrative showcases the lasting impact that art and influential figures can have on individuals, stirring emotions and inspiring change across different generations.

“Behind Which Door?”: Offering a poignant glimpse into the unfiltered and innocent worldview of a four-year-old child, this story reveals how a single word or event can disrupt a child’s perception of beauty and reality. It leaves an indelible mark on their small yet vibrant world, highlighting the fragility of innocence. The narrative underscores how seemingly minor occurrences can have profound effects on young minds, shaping their understanding and experience of the world around them.

    A Bold Cinematic Endeavor:

Challenging conventional norms, Al Mansoori concludes the book with a personal and ambitious project: the adaptation of her story “Zain” into a complete film script. Despite advice suggesting its exclusion, she felt compelled to share this screenplay as a natural extension of her storytelling.

“Adapting ‘Zain’ into a screenplay was both challenging and exhilarating,” Al Mansoori explains. “Cinema transcends visual art; it’s a medium that captures the inner emotions and subtle nuances of characters in ways that words alone might not convey. This adaptation allowed me to explore time, space, and personality from a fresh, visual perspective, opening another door to understanding the characters and their journeys.”

By embracing the screenplay format, Al Mansoori invites readers to experience her story through a different lens, highlighting her versatility as a storyteller and her passion for exploring new realms of narrative expression. This innovative approach offers a unique addition to the literary landscape, bridging the worlds of literature and cinema.

An Invitation to Reflect and Connect:

Al Mansoori’s ultimate aspiration is to resonate with readers on a deeply personal level while touching upon universal themes that transcend cultural and geographical boundaries. “Whether a story is penned on paper or brought to life on screen, its core purpose remains the same: to foster human connection,” she emphasizes. “I hope that through these stories, readers will find reflections of their own emotions and experiences, and perhaps gain new insights into the lives of others.”

She extends her heartfelt gratitude to all who embark on this literary journey with her: “Thank you for welcoming these characters into your hearts. May they serve as light-hearted guests who inspire thought, reflection, and perhaps a renewed appreciation for the fleeting moments that shape our lives.”

Heba Ibrahim Al Mansoori is a burgeoning Emirati author and the founder and CEO of BIZ COM, the UAE’s first Emirati-owned public relations agency. With a profound passion for storytelling, she crafts narratives that are both intimate and universally relatable. In addition to her debut fiction collection, she has authored a non-fiction book titled “Serendib,” a travel guide that chronicles her experiences and reflections on Sri Lanka. Al Mansoori continues to learn and evolve as a writer, aspiring to connect with readers through honest and thought-provoking stories that bridge hearts and minds across the globe.

Wall Street rises after Treasury expands debt buybacks

    August 20, 2026

U.S. stocks ended modestly higher Wednesday as long-term Treasury yields fell sharply. The S&P 500 rose 16.22 points, or 0.21%, to 7,707.98, ending a three-session losing streak. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 119.65 points, or 0.22%, to close at 53,463.05. The Nasdaq Composite added 41.38 points, or 0.16%, finishing at 26,331.09. Falling government bond yields helped major indexes recover after several sessions of pressure from rising borrowing costs. Bond prices climbed after the U.S. Treasury Department announced larger liquidity support buybacks for longer-dated government debt. Starting September 9, the maximum purchase size will increase from $2 billion to at least $4 billion per operation. The change covers nominal coupon securities in the 10-to-20-year and 20-to-30-year maturity sectors. The increased amounts will remain in effect through November 4. The department said strong volumes of high-quality offers supported the decision to increase liquidity operations in those sectors. Treasury yields moved lower following the announcement, reversing part of a recent rise in long-term borrowing costs. The 10-year Treasury yield fell to about 4.65%, while the 30-year yield declined to about 5.20%. The 30-year yield had reached 5.337% on Tuesday, its highest level since 2007.
